Supporting Neurodiversity in the workplace: a candid guide to getting started

This Article by Margaux Joffee, who helped create the tech industry’s first Neurodiversity Employee Resource Group at Yahoo in 2017. She speaks from her own personal experience as a woman with ADHD and is also a certified accessibility professional

She outlines what Neurodiversity is references the HBR study about Neurodiversity as a Competitive Advantage. One of the best parts of this reading however is the wealth of other resources contained in one spot.

She has curated a phenomenal list of other resources within this article that I found to be incredibly valuable like guidebooks that are for HR professionals and leaders and contain information like tips for inclusive job descriptions and interviewing plus performance evaluations. There is also a section on courses that leaders can take and books to read.

Plus, something I think we should all be aware of which is common pitfalls to avoid. Margaux outlines:

  • Focusing too much on superpowers and putting neurodiverse employees on a pedestal
  • Putting undue work or emotional labor on neurodivergent employees taking advantage of their focus.
  • Thinking of parents or caregivers as a neurodivergent employee’s proxy

And more. Please enjoy!
